According to the information from Brazilian media, Dutch midfielder Rafael van der Vaart was offered to Santos in the last few days.
The 33-year-old is unhappy at Spanish league side Real Betis, and accepts to act in Brazilian football for the first time after spells with Ajax, Hamburg, Real Madrid and Tottenham, and two World Cups with the Dutch national team. The information was published by the Diário de S.Paulo and then confirmed by the Globo Esporte. Representative of van der Vaart approached Brazilian agent Luiz Taveira and talked about the midfielder’s lack of motivation in Spanish football. The solution would be a productivity agreement with a monthly salary around €45,000 plus bonuses for objectives achieved. He has a contract with Real Betis until 2018.
Santos coach Dorival Júnior liked the suggestion, but was concerned about the physical and technical condition of the player, and asked the coaching staff to make a performance review of van der Vaart in recent years. The club have made five signings for 2016 so far; attackers Maxi Rolón, Paulinho and Joel, and defenders Luiz Felipe and Fabián Noguera who arrives at Vila Belmiro in May, when his contract with Banfield ends.
