Sold by Shakhtar Donetsk to Jiangsu Suning for a record breaking transfer fee of €50 million, Brazilian attacker Alex Teixeira finally arrived in China to be officially presented at his new club.
Alex Teixeira was warmly welcomed by several Chinese fans who waited in the Nanjing Lukou airport. The deal to bring the 26-year-old was the biggest transfer in Asian football history, and he arrives with a ‘hero’ status after scoring 22 goals in 15 games in the first half of the season for the Ukrainian team. Alex Teixeira was strongly linked to Liverpool, and although he admitted his preference to stay in Europe and move to the Premier League in order to be called up by the national team, the attacking midfielder eventually opted for the best offer received. He said: “Everyone knew I wanted to stay in Europe. Unfortunately, the proposals that came to me were nothing concrete. Then I received a very serious offer from China and of course I accepted. I know that the national team now became more distant, but we’ll see what happens in the future.”
