One of the hottest names in the market, Alexandre Pato continues to train with Corinthians but the player’s agent is in Europe to define his next club.
According to Globo Esporte, Pato’s agent Gilmar Veloz arrived in Milan early on Thursday and will stay in Italy for a few days before traveling to England and Portugal for talks. The trip back to Brazil is scheduled for the 30th of this month and Pato is waiting to know the name of his new club. There is still no agreement with any team, although Chelsea and Sporting Clube are effectively on the run. One of the first meetings that Gilmar Veloz had in Milan was with Ariedo Braida, acting as sporting director of Barcelona. The Italian was responsible for bringing Pato to AC Milan in 2007 from Internacional. The technical qualities of the then young Internacional man impressed Braida, who maintains contact with the player and his agent today. Remains to be seen whether it was just a meeting between two friends or a business one.
The meetings will continue in the coming days as Veloz travels to England, where he will find the director and right-hand of Roman Abramovich at Chelsea, Marina Granovskaia. Liverpool were also in the running for Pato, but the club officials were barred by coach Jürgen Klopp, who prefers a striker with other characteristics. Something similar happened with Juventus, as the Italian club’s leaders were also interested in the player, but strengthening the offensive sector was not in Massimiliano Allegri’s intentions. After England, Veloz travels to Portugal, where Sporting are looking for an attacker, with Pato and Leandro Damiao considered among the options. There is one factor that may facilitate negotiations between the Portuguese club and Corinthians. The key would be Colombian striker Téo Gutiérrez who wants to return to South America and wear the Corinthians shirt.
