26-year-old Brazilian striker Leandro Damião, who has been negotiating wages with Internacional and Turkish side Galatasaray, is no longer a free-agent in the market.
In December, an order from the Superior Labor Court had allowed the player to terminate his contract with Santos, and was officially free in the market. However, Santos filed an appeal and on Monday, the Regional Labour Court have reversed the decision and Leandro Damião is once again a Santos player. Both Internacional and Galatasaray have been negotiating personal terms with Damião in recent weeks, following the previous court order, but with the new decision, the player or the club that wishes to sign him must deposit his huge release clause at Santos, in order to sign him. For Brazilian clubs, the amount stipulated is R$ 200 million [€45m], while foreign clubs would have to pay €200 million. Damião is supposed to present himself at the club"s training centre on Wednesday, but his agent Vinícius Prates said the new decision is strange and that the player will not be present under any circumstances.
