Barcelona forward Neymar has ignored claims that he was racially abused by Espanyol supporters on Saturday.
Neymar again saw his name involved in racism controversy in Spain after Spanish TV channel La Sexta caught a part of Espanyol supporters inside the stadium screaming “uh uh uh” at the Brazilian forward during the 0-0 draw on Saturday. The video released by the channel also shows a quite aggressive behavior of the Espanyol fans towards Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez. Neymar said: “I did not hear anything. It is difficult for things to bother me, I just play football.”
Barça board member Toni Freixa and midfielder Andres Iniesta had stated that they heard the abuse, but Espanyol president Joan Collet said that he didn’t see any kind of racist behaviour towards Neymar. He said: “I was there, just like 30,000 people and nothing happened. The whole thing blows up for one shout, but there was nothing generalised, it’s a lie. It was a high-risk game and there weren’t any incidents. The attitude of the fans was admirable. It was a game we can feel proud about and it makes us very excited about the future.”
