Jose Mourinho called Ramires a ‘giant’ following Chelsea’s 2-0 home win over Aston Villa that saw the Champions pick up only their third victory of the season.

The Portuguese coach said after the game;

“He (Ramires) was a giant, he ran miles and recovered the ball many times during the match.”

It has been an up and down start for the Brazilian this season, very much in keeping with his clubs stuttering start.
The Villa game also saw the 28 year old notch his first 90 minutes in the Premier League this season. He has progressively found a greater level of consistency since being left out of the squad for three games between late August and early September.

Mourinho was impressed with the Ex-Benfica man’s pressing and harrying which began the move for Diego Costa’s, quite fortuitous second goal.

Ramires admitted his pleasure after the match;

“I’m happy for the compliments and trust that Mourinho has placed me in this delicate moment. This victory was very important to lift the mood of the team. Now is following working to achieve a regularity of good performances in the season. We know we can not fluctuate much. Finding that balance is our main goal right now, ”

Since arriving at Chelsea in the summer of 2010, Ramires has won everything you can win domestically but is still talking about extending his contract beyond 2017.

“My manager is already treating the renewal with the directors of Chelsea. Everyone knows the identification I have with the club. My will is to stay as long as possible. I hope it (an extension) happens, but my focus right now is coming back to my best on the field. I’m happy with my time, to help the team as much as I can, and I will continue working to keep it that way.”

However, the Brazilian’s immediate focus will be to help Chelsea recover from their loss to Porto in the last game in the Champions League away against Dynamo Kiev.
