Shakhtar winger Bernard talked about last year"s World Cup which saw Brazil being humiliated by Germany in the semifinals, suffering the worst defeat in their history.
The youngster also says that his current relationship with Shakhtar coach Mircea Lucescu is very good. Bernard was given the nickname “Kid with joy in his legs" during the World Cup, and although he liked it, says he prefers to be remembered by his name itself. He told Globo Esporte: “My first passage in the national team ended somewhat troubled. Not only for me but for everyone in the World Cup. Earning the nickname was a surprise and was well received, especially from those who came and the coach who won our fifth World Cup. I like the name, but now I want to be remembered as Bernard."
About the semifinal defeat to Germany, he said: “Tomei [sleeping pill] twice; before the game because I was informed at night that I"d play, and after because it was a tough night for everyone. Nobody could explain what happened. Scolari had told me the night before that I"d play. Next night, it was more difficult to sleep. I remember arriving at Granja Comary, for dinner, it was total silence, no one could explain, each went to a room. For me, it was awful, I couldn"t sleep."
He added: “From what"s happening here, it"s my best phase at Shakhtar. I and the coach, we understand each other, the problem is over. We got to talk; he showed his points and I showed mine. The important thing was to sit down and talk to solve. Today we have a very good relationship, he is praising me."
