São Paulo striker Luis Fabiano has admitted that there is little prospect of him renewing his contract with Tricolor once it expires in December. Fabiano scored his 176th goal for São Paulo on Sunday, in an entertaining 2-2 draw with Vasco da Gama, but maintained after the match that he almost certainly has no future with the club beyond the end of the season.

Former President Carlos Miguel Aidar had already confirmed the club’s decision not to renew Luis Fabiano’s contract earlier in the season, however, he resigned last week following the departure of manager Juan Carlos Osorio. Fabiano, who turns 35 in November, told reporters that there would be no reprieve for him at the club, “My subject is now closed, there will be more to be talking or chatting. No, I’m not dismissing myself, I have two more months here at the club, I will play here until the end of the year, but from what I have seen, I will not continue after that,” said the striker.

In July, he had been linked with a lucrative move to the UAE, until he was sent off for swearing at a referee against Sport Recife. That proved to be a record equalling 16th red card in a São Paulo shirt for Fabiano, whose disciplinary issues have not cooled with age. Interested parties apparently cooled their interest in the ex-Sevilla and Porto man. Injury to Allen Kardec and a positional switch for Alexandre Pato ought to have cleared competition for a starting berth in the Tricolor attack, but Luis Fabiano has demonstrated only patchy form in that time. It remains to be seen whether new boss Doriva can reinvigorate him for the final few months of his contract.
