Rivaldo made his playing return yesterday at the ripe old age of 43, as he came off the bench to help Mogi Mirim, the club of which he also happens to be president, beat high-flying Náutico 2-1.

The former World Cup winner started training three weeks ago, aiming to get himself back into shape in order to help his club in their Serie B relegation dogfight.

And after coming on from the bench 67 minutes into last night’s game with his side losing 1-0, Rivaldo saw Serginho score twice to turn the game in his side’s favour and gain a desperately needed first victory of the season.

The Sāo Paulo state outfit are currently in equal last place in the table and five points from safety, with just six points gained from their opening 11 games.
