Filipe Luis believes Fred can help fill the void left by the injured by Oscar at this month’s Copa América.
The Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder was a late addition to the squad for the tournament in Chile, drafted in at the last minute to replace Luiz Gustavo. He was handed starts in both friendly fixtures against Mexico and Honduras, and kept his spot in Brazil’s Copa América opener against Peru. Filipe Luís said: “Fred is a great player who likes to triangulate quickly in possession, which is a style of game that I really like and feel comfortable playing. I have to also note that Oscar fulfils that role too and we miss a lot by not having him with us, but Fred has played very well. The two players have different characteristics, but there are playing the same function in setting out the rhythm. Each brings different qualities to the team but Fred has made a great impression.”
