Two CNN workers have been injured after Brazilian police fired tear gas canisters at a group of people protesting ahead of the World Cup tonight.

CNN producer Barbara Arvanitidis and reporter Shasta Darlington both unfortunately suffered minor injuries in the crossfire before they were removed from the scene and were given medical care.

Darlington cut her arm, while Arvanitidis was hit on the wrist during the protest which included around 300 people.

The demonstration occurred around seven miles from the stadium according to CNN and at least one person has been arrested.

UOL state that the confrontation between police and the protesters started at around 10:10am Brazil time and that protestors had planned to work their way through São Paulo to Arena Corinthians.

Throughout the Confederations Cup protests occurred in Brazil and the worry for the World Cup organisters will be that the same is due to occur again.
