Brazil captain Thiago Silva has concluded that their tough-fought win over Serbia yesterday will stand them in good stead for the World Cup as the tournament opener against Croatia looms large on the horizon.
The hosts kick off on Thursday against Serbia’s neighbours and Silva told reporters after the game: “Today we had a lot of difficulty in the first half and this served to show us how much more difficult it will be against Croatia.”
“Croatia should play the same way, we must be very careful, learn our lessons from this game and believe that our opening match will be very complicated.”
On the blossoming central defensive partnership with David Luiz, Silva added: “My relationship is getting better and better, but there was some indecision in the first half which almost resulted in a goal that could have made the game very complicated.”
A well-drilled Serbian outfit perhaps deserved to take something from the game in which sections of the home support chose to boo their team in a show of frustration that will not aid Selecao come the tournament proper.
