Sepp Blatter has admitted that football’s governing body was wrong to let the Gulf state host the tournament in 2022.

Blatter was discussing the summer temperatures in Qatar, which can exceed 100F, when conceding that it was a bad decision.

When speaking to Swiss TV channel RTS, Blatter said: “Of course, it was a mistake. You know, one makes a lot of mistakes in life.

“The technical report indicated clearly that it was too hot in summer, but despite that the executive committee decided, with quite a big majority, that the tournament would be in Qatar.”

The tournament will likely be moved to winter.

This summer’s World Cup in Brazil begins on June 12 in São Paulo.
