Fred rose to head in a corner from close range in the 10th minute, capping a fine week for the ´Tricolor´ target man who was named in Brazil´s World Cup squad. In contrast, Felipe in the Flamengo goal will be disappointed not to have claimed the ball so near to his line.
This scrappy encounter was decided in the last five minutes when Chiquinho ran through to drill into the bottom right corner after neat passing by Walter and Conca.
In reaction to his team´s performance, Fred said: “We knew how to be aggressive and our counterattacks worked well in the end.”
Fluminense are now just one point behind Brasileiro leaders Internacional after winning three of their first four games, whilst Flamengo´s stuttering start to the season continues.
