Fluminense suffered an embarrassing 3-1 defeat to Horizonte on Thursday night in the Copa do Brasil but they’ll have a chance to redeem themselves in the second leg next week.

National team striker Fred praised the opposition team and admitted it will be tough to turn the tie around in the second leg despite Horizonte not possessing the quality of players Flu have.

The hosts went ahead early on but Darío Conca equalised for Fluminense before they conceded two second half goals to record a poor result.

Fred revealed his thoughts to Lancenet, he said: The Brazil Cup is important.

“Congratulations to Horizonte because they were good and we unfortunately lost a lot of goals.

“We will play with the crowd on our side but it will be very difficult.”

The Fluminense captain was guilty of missed two good opportunities in the defeat whilst strike partner Walter wasn’t prominent in the match.

Fluminense will hope to avoid some embarrassment next Thursday when they play the second leg and they’ll hope to come out victorious.
