One of the stadiums that will host fixtures in this summer’s World Cup has suffered a minor blow with the news that an opening test match scheduled for this weekend will not now go ahead as planned.
The Beira Rio in the southern city of Porto Alegre was one of the stadia that was thought to be well on course to meet inspection deadlines and it was claimed to be 97% complete by renovations staff.
However, the Seattle Post has reported that Internacional’s home has been beset by infrastructure problems on the outside of the venue, in terms of public access.
With a time set of February 28 for completion of all 12 World Cup venues, Brazil faces a major race against time to succeed. The 51,000 Beira Rio is still thought to be one of the stadiums under little threat of sanctons for failure to be ready and it is hoped that the minor infrastructure faults will be remedied with ease.
