Brazil’s top clubs have begun their arguments over the decision to replay games in the wake of the match fixing allegations.

The CBF decided on Sunday to annul all 11 matches refereed by Edilson Pereira de Carvalho, who admitted taking money from an betting ring to sway match results.

But some clubs argue that not all the games need to be replayed as it appears Carvalho did not attempt to rig the result of every match he refereed and on one occasion, the team he was meant to favour actually lost their match 4-1.

‘The championship has lost credibility because we still don’t know what there is behind all this,’ Flamengo coach Andrade told reporters. ‘Was it just Edilson (Carvalho)?

‘The whole championship has been stained and it’s not right that anyone should be relegated.’ The Flamengo President added, which might seem a little odd given Flamengo were not involved in any of the 11 games. However given their league form and position he words seem to make sense.

Mean while Paulo Jose Danelon, a second division referee, has also been suspended. Both men face charges of fraud, conspiracy and crimes against the economy, along with businessman Nagib Fayad, who is alleged to have organised the internet based betting ring.
