Fernandinho played for an hour as Manchester CIty strode to their first preseason win over South China in the Barclays Asia Cup.

The former Shakhtar Donetsk star lined up alongside Gareth Barry in City’s midfield with Yaya Toure playing just ahead of the duo.

Edin Dzeko started off the proceedings with a close range header from James Milner’s superb run and cross.

Fernandinho was then substituted after the hour mark, coming off for Javi Garcia as Manuel Pellegrini rang the changes.

City eventually settled for a comfortable 1-0 win as their opponents tired in the midst of the away side’s dominance.

The Brazilian signed for Manchester City earlier this summer, the Citizens’ first signing of the transfer window, after they agreed on a £30 million fee.
