State of Rio de Janeiro"s vice-governor Luiz Fernando de Sousa affirmed that the Rio de Janeiro-based clubs will be able to play at the Maracanã after the Confederations Cup.

The stadium was inaugurated this Sunday in a match between Brazil and England, Fluminense"s striker Fred scored the first goal.

Luiz Fernando de Sousa told reporters after the game: “I believe that as soon as the Confederations Cup is over, the stadium will be available for the Rio de Janeiro clubs.

There isn"t much time left to make the privatization official, we have given the company that will run the stadium all details, we are talking, maybe we can even solve this sooner [than expected]."

He added: “As far as we know, they are already in talks with the clubs regarding both the Brazilian league and the cup, all the big clubs, apart from Vasco that have their own stadium, will play their derbies here [at the Maracanã.]"
