Alexandre Kalil, the president of Atlético Mineiro, has revealed that there are five clubs chasing the signature of talented young midfielder Bernard.

One English club is rumoured to be targeting the player, with a report on UOL Esporte suggesting that the club in question is Tottenham Hotspur.

A move to European Cup runners up Borussia Dortmund had seemed likely, as they look to replace the outgoing Mario Götze, but these latest revelations show that this move might not be set in stone.

UOL also reported that Dortmund have already had a bid rejected by the Belo Horizonte club, and it seems that Kalil is resigned to losing his star player.

He said: “I have five clubs interested in Bernard. I will find it very difficult to keep Bernard after the Libertadores.”

Bernard should play in tonight’s Copa Libertadores quarter-final second-leg tie, in which Atlético are at home to Mexican side Tijuana.

The aggregate score is 2-2, and a defeat for the Brazilian side could mean that the Bernard transfer happens sooner rather than later.
