Cicinho has told the Brazilian press he has turned down the opportunity to go to AC Milan in order to remain with Sao Paulo and increase his World Cup hopes.

The 25-year-old right back attracted major attention after his performances in the Confederations Cup in June and was approached by Milan with regards a move to Europe.

However, Cicinho appears to have made the brave decision to turn down the six-time European Cup winners to enhance his chances of making the World Cup in Germany next summer.

“I am very comfortable at Sao Paulo so I am not thinking of the chance to leave this team at the moment,” said Cicinho.

“I have spoken about this with my father and he agreed that my decision is the correct one.

“I think that the best thing for my career will be to stay at Sao Paulo and leave to go to Europe after the World Cup in 2006.

“I want to stay at Sao Paulo until after the World Cup because if I play in Brazil I have more chances for being called to the national team and that is my objective.”
