Lucas Leiva has hailed Liverpool teammate Jamie Carragher and says he would love to match half of his career achievements for the Reds.

Carragher bowed out of professional football against QPR after over 700 games for Liverpool and Lucas says they were fortunate to have him in their side.

“We were more emotional than Carra probably. As he says, he’s not an emotional person but we can see what he’s done for the club,” the midfielder added.

“It’s just a dream for any player to achieve what he achieved for Liverpool. I hope I can get half of his achievements because I would be very proud.”

Carragher will now take up a position in Sky Sports’ punditry team alongside former Manchester United defender Gary Neville.
