Ronaldinho Gaúcho admitted that he is delighted with his first title since he joined Atlético Mineiro last year.

His team were beaten 1-2 by arch-rivals Cruzeiro in the second leg of the Minas Gerais State League final, but won the title thanks to a 3-0 win in the first leg.

The former Grêmio and Barcelona player scored Atlético Mineiro’s only goal in the match, putting an end to Cruzeiro’s hopes.

He told reporters after the game: “It’s a different kind of emotion, the fans embraced me, and I could score the title winning goal, which was very exciting.”

“I am very happy, it’s an important title in my career.”

Ronaldinho added: “It’s a very important title that crowns six months of work. This is the first step towards winning even more titles.”

Atlético Mineiro will face Tijuana from Mexico in the quarter-finals of Copa Libertadores, and will start on the weekend the fight to win their first national league title in 1971.
