Small Rio de Janeiro second division team America-RJ have expressed interest in signing former Flamengo and Inter Milan striker Adriano.

The club would have the support of ‘Chap’, a company that runs the club’s football section, to sign the striker. Adriano would also become the company’s poster boy.

America plan to take advantage of Adriano’s connection with the Vila Cruzeiro favela to show how despite coming from a place with no hope, he succeeded.

The player has been training at a local academy recently in order to return to be fit, which could help make a return to football quicker.

The club’s president Vinícius Cordeiro told press that “we had talks this week, but he hasn’t expressed an official position yet, our partner understands that he is a key piece in their marketing strategy”.

He added that Adriano will feel at home at America, he said: “we know that he turned down offers, but he will be close to his family here, close to his community”.

He completed that Adriano is a good poster boy even if he does not play, he said: “He played only three games for Corinthians but lots of his shirts were sold”.

Adriano has been without a club since he left Flamengo in December, he was previously linked to China and Palmeiras.
