Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has identified Bayern Munich midfielder Luiz Gustavo as the man to bring some much needed steal to his team and will make a move for the Brazilian this summer.

Gustavo, 25, joined Bayern in January 2011 from Hoffenheim for a fee of around £15million after impressing during Hoffenheim’s swift rise to the Bundesliga.

Goal.com are reporting that Wenger see’s Gustavo as the ideal man to replace Alex Song, who left for Barcelona last summer, and made a move for the player during the transfer window in January, only to be told that the German giants did not want to sell mid-season.

Arsenal and Bayern clash on Tuesday night in the last 16 of the Champions League but it is unlikely the Brazilian will start the game, with manager Jupp Heynckes preferring Bastian Schweinsteiger, Toni Kroos and Javi Martinez in midfield.

Arsenal have had a number of senior scouts in Germany this season as they believe it now one of the leading markets to sign quality players and they have been impressed by Gustavo’s performances when he has been on the field for Bayern, who are 15 points clear at the top of the Bundesliga.

The midfielder has made 15 appearances so far for Bayern this season and has a contract that runs up until 2015 in Munich.
