Chelsea secured a 2-1 victory over city rivals Arsenal in the Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge in a game riddled with controversy.

Juan Mata opened the scoring after just six minutes, a goal which was disputed by Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger after the match due to an alleged foul in the build up by Ramires on Francis Coquelin.

Frank Lampard doubled Chelsea’s lead after 16 minutes to send them into half time in a comfortable lead.

Theo Walcott looked to have inspired an Arsenal comeback with a goal just after the restart but Arsenal failed to overcome the Chelsea defence for a second time.

Oscar also featured but David Luiz was dropped from the squad altogether as Rafael Benitez rotated his squad.

Chelsea ran out with all three points which sees them cement third place after stretching their lead over nearest rivals Tottenham to four points.

Arsenal remain in sixth, level on 34 points with Liverpool and West Bromwich Albion.
