According to Gazzetta dello Sport, AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has reached an agreement with Corinthians over the €15 million sale of Alexandre Pato in São Paulo on Wednesday.
Pato, 23, is set to join the World Club Cup champions after a five-year spell in Italy that was badly disrupted by injury in its latter stages. Milan had parted with €22 million in 2007 to secure his services, but have seen his value decline as his appearances have become ever more sporadic.
The striker will now become Corinthians’ second major transfer of January 2013, following Bayer Leverkusen’s announcement that Renato Augusto will also be joining the Timão for the new season.
Milan director Galliani will remain in Brazil for the time being as Milan also look to offload want-away forward Robinho, although Flamengo have now pulled out of the race for his signature. The paper reports that Santos, Fluminense and São Paulo remain in the hunt.
The transfer of Pato, if completed, will likely break the record for a Brazilian transfer that does not rely upon financial assistance from a third-party investor, as in the case of Carlos Tevez’s move to Corinthians.
