Atlético Mineiro’s Ronaldinho Gaúcho says the fans made him decide to stay amd sign a new one year contract at the club.

The former Seleção star says the passion of the supporters struck him from day one as he agreed the contract with club president Alexandre Kalil.

Ronaldinho told reporters: “Since the day I arrived at this club I have been made to feel so welcome.

“I have a great relationship with everybody; the president, my teammates, the coaching staff but most of all the fans, who have really won my affection. All of those factors convinced me to stay.”

The announcement ends speculation of a move to rivals Fluminense, who pipped Atlético to the Brasileirão title.

The former Ballon D’Or winner scored nine times and assisted for a further 11 goals this season and was also named in the the league’s Team of the Year.
