Barcelona defender Dani Alves will be out of action for up to three weeks after pulling a hamstring during his side’s 4-0 win over Levante.

The Brazil international, who has had an injury-interrupted start to the campaign, started the game on Sunday but picked up a knock early on and was forced to leave the pitch after only 14 minutes of play.

In a statement released Monday, the club confirmed that Alves had undergone medical tests which confirmed a muscle strain to his hamstring.

“Tests undertaken on Monday on the Brazilian player confirm a stretch in the right femoral biceps (muscle at the back of the thigh),” Barcelona said on their official website.

The club also revealed the injury mirrored another very similar one Alves picked up in his other leg during the match against Real Madrid.

The 29-year-old, who has made 16 appearances for the Blaugrana so far this term, could miss up to six matches between La Liga, the Champions League and the King’s Cup.
