AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri has backed struggling striker Alexandre Pato to come good ahead of their Champions League clash with Anderlecht.

The Brazil striker has struggled in recent weeks amid criticism that followed his penalty miss against Fiorentina.

Allegri told reporters ahead of the match: “Pato is a player who is important on a European level. This could be his game.”

The coach also admitted that it would be a difficult game for Milan: “It is going to be a very difficult game, just like all the ones we have faced recently. The Champions League is a tough competition, but we will give our all to do well.

“Overall, our performance against Napoli on Saturday was good. There were some individual errors and these things can happen.

“It will be a different match, but the team is in good shape physically.”
