Former Fenerbahçe midfielder Alex believes that Corinthians have a “good chance” of defeating Chelsea in December’s Club World Cup, having observed the club since his return to Brazil.

Alex, 35, has agreed a return to former side Coritiba for the 2013 season and has used his time since returning to his homeland to check out potential future opposition – Corinthians included.

With the Timão now famed for their consistency of style, following their march to Copa Libertadores glory earlier this year, the Brazil international believes they have the tools to down Chelsea in the Far East.

“If the final is Corinthians against Chelsea then Corinthians have a great chance of winning because they have a good team,” Alex told the Bate-Bola programme on ESPN Brasil.

“Corinthians have a well defined style and they are not going to change this. I have seen them in recent games and Tite has tried different players to seek the perfect formation – anyone who has come in knows exactly what they are doing.”
