Fluminense’s Fred has revealed his determination to convince Brazil boss Mano Menezes that there is room for a goalscorer in the Seleção and earn more call ups in the future.

The striker scored 19 goals in the Brasileirão this season which earned him a call up for tomorrow’s Superclássico das Americas clash against Argentina.

Ahead of the match, Fred told reporters: “My job is to score goals. I like it when I can play passes, I like having that responsibility, but I want to convince Mano that there is room in the team for a goalscorer and fit in the best I can.

“Without goals, we won’t get results. For the Seleção, things are difficult because we have little time to train, there are fewer opportunities, so when you have a chance, you have to be ready to score the goals.

“So it’s important to have confidence in the coach. I just need to play and when opportunities come, I just need to score.

“I have to show my qualities, especially now that I’m back. I want to score goals, play well, win and earn Mano’s trust, so that he can believe in me and call me up again.”
