Former Santos playmaker Paulo Henrique Ganso has thanked the São Paulo fans after making his long-awaited debut in front of a record crowd.

Ganso, 23, made the controversial switch to the Morumbi in September after falling out with cross-city rivals Santos officials over a new contract.

The Seleção star, who had been sidelined with a left thigh injury, impressed as a second-half substitute as the Tricolor beat Náutico 2-1.

More than 62,000 spectators witnessed the midfielder’s debut, which is the highest Brasileirão attendance this year, and Ganso wanted to thank them all after the game.

He said: “I am so happy. The fans packed the stadium and we managed to win an important match.

“Fortunately I was able to contribute. It was a perfect afternoon. The most important thing was the victory, which has brought as closer to the Copa Libertadores.”

São Paulo need just one point from their final two league fixtures to secure a place in next season’s Copa Libertadores.

Corinthians, who the Tricolor face on the final day of the season, are currently chasing the prestigious final fourth position but trail São Paulo by six points.
