Cruzeiro sporting director Alexandre Mattos has confirmed the club have been in contact with the agent of Paris Saint-Germain defender Diego Lugano over a possible transfer.

The Uruguay captain has fallen out of favour with PSG coach Carlo Ancelotti and recently expressed his desire to move to a club where “he will play more often”.

Last month Lugano’s agent, Juan Figer, revealed that Grêmio were interested in a possible January transfer, as well as São Paulo.

Now it seems Cruzeiro could be a possible destination for him, although nothing is concrete just yet.

Alexandre Mattos said: “Cruzeiro is targeting some players for next year.

“I can confirm that Cruzeiro have contacted the agent of the player to find out his situation and financial conditions.

“But for now, it there is nothing concrete.”

The 32-year-old is yet to make an appearence for the league leaders this season.
