Atlético Mineiro playmaker Ronaldinho and Flamengo coach Dorival Júnior have criticised the referee’s performance during their 1-1 draw last night.

Ronaldinho, 32, could have had a penalty against his former team after he appeared to be taken down by Ibson inside the area.

However, referee Sandro Meira Ricci denied the home side the spot kick, much to the frustration of the former Barcelona and AC Milan star.

He said: “We are frustrated because we entered the match planning to score from the outset.

“We had a penalty that wasn’t given because the referee didn’t see it. It would have changed the direction of the match."

Flamengo coach Dorival Júnior was also unimpressed with a number of the official’s decisions , in particular his dismissal of Wellington Silva.

The 50-year-old said: “I approached him [the referee] at the end of the first half and asked if the card Wellington Silva received was due or technical discipline.

“He told me to go to the locker room and said he could not even answer me. Upon return I was informed that I was expelled.

“This is unacceptable. If you cannot exchange a word with the referee without offending home, where are we going? It is impossible to work."
