Shakhtar Donetsk secured a famous 2-1 victory over defending champions Chelsea in Group E of the Champions League at the Donbass Arena on Tuesday night thanks to goals from Brazilians Alex Teixeira and Fernandinho.

The Ukranian side, who have now secured seven points from their op2ening three fixtures of the Group Stage, were inspired by former Chelsea target Willian who put on a show in front of his former suitors.

It could have been worse for Chelsea, who were lucky not to be more than one goal down at the break, but they did find themselves behind within three minutes as Alex Teixeira rolled a loose ball home from the right of the penalty area.

Although Shakhtar pressed, they were unable to double their lead until early in the second-half when Fernandinho converted from fine work from striker Luiz Adriano to send the home support into raptures.

The Blues eventually pulled one goal back, through Seleção star Oscar, but it was too little too late for the defending Champions who now find themselves in 2nd place in the Group on four points, narrowly ahead of Italian champions Juventus on three.
