Atlético Mineiro midfielder Bernard is recovering after suffering convulsions after a blow to the back of the neck in his side’s fixture with Santos on Wednesday evening.

Bernard, 20, initially attempted to play on after the blow but was shortly forced to leave the pitch due to the pain and was treated in the dressing room after suffering a small fit and an abnormally high heart-rate.

With Atlético’s doctor at the hospital with defender Rafael Marques, who left the pitch after suffering a blow to the head in the first-half, Santos club doctor Rodrigo Zogaib was left to treat the star.

Zogaib told reporters: “He started to have convulsions and had an exceptionally high heart-rate.” The doctor then assured reporters that the midfielder was fine and they had no worries over his condition.

Bernard exited the pitch late in the second-half with Atlético left to play-out the remainder of the game with ten-men, having used all their permitted substitutions.
