The new stadium of Grêmio is now around 90% complete according to a report in Globo Esporte today and is on target to be finished in time for the opening fixture on 8th December against Bundesliga side Hamburg SV. The report also highlighted that work has began on a brand new training facility, on the Arena site, that has been based on Barcelona’s training ground and is scheduled to be finished in January 2013.

The work on the new training centre was officially opened by club president’s Paulo Odone and Eduardo Antonini and CEO Cristiano Koehler on Tuesday, and Antonini is confident that it will be the one of the best around.

He said: “The Training centre will be the best in Brazil. We will have some larger areas with hotel concepts and junior levels, but the focus will be on the professional side, and has been greatly strengthened by the work done with the Paulo Paixão (coach) and Vanderlei Luxembourgo (head coach). It will be the best.

“We visited many Training centres around the world. Ours will be very similar to Barcelona.”
