Botafogo’s former Dutch international Clarence Seedorf has reiterated his belief that the club are making good progress and building a project that could see them become the biggest in Brazil.

Despite admitting that there had been some frustrating times since joing the the club, the former AC Milan star is excited by the young talent in the squad and referenced Chelsea as a club that the Fogão could follow.

Seedorf, 36, told Globo Esporte: “There are children starving in some places in the world. We have a problem yes but we have to find a balance with things. We need to see the good things Botafogo is doing.

“There’s a club in Europe who just got there first international title and will now face the Corinthians (in the Club World Cup). They are considered one of the biggest in the world. Why can’t Botafogo become the main club in Brazil?

“The project that I bought into was not to win one game. Just look at what Chelsea are building.”

The club have played good football for at times this season but have not always gotten the points this has deserved and look likley to miss out on the Copa Libertadores qualification for next year. Although Seedorf doesn’t believe drastic changes are needed.

“Working with the kids is very easy, they have a great desire to learn. The group is very good. Everyone can see how much the team has grown mentally. Unfortunately the results are coming. I know from my experience that we should not change our belief.”
