Leandro Damião has spoke of his desire to represent the Seleção, as Internacional are reluctant to let the striker leave for Brazil’s upcoming friendlies.
Brazil’s two games, against Iraq and Japan on October 11 and 16 respectively, means Damião will miss three games in the Brasileirão, against Atlético MG, Atlético-GO and Figueirense.
Internacional will also lose Uruguayan Diego Forlan and Argentina’s Pablo Guiñazú due to South America’s World Cup qualifiers, but Damião wants to be allowed to leave for national duty.
He said: “I’m always willing to help Inter. My contract is with Inter. It is up to the club to see that part.
“But if I have to go to the Seleção, I will. Every player dreams of wearing two shirts. I have to work the same.”
The Seleção take on Japan in Sweden on October 11, before facing Iraq in Poland, as the Brazil World Tour continues apace.
Internacional president Giovanni Luigi stated that the club will make a formal request to Brazil’s Football Confederation (CBF) to release Damião from the squad.
Inter are currently seventh in Brazil’s Serie A standings, four points shy of the Copa Libertadores qualification zone.
