Renowned South American football correspondant Tim Vickery believes that Oscar may be the “most important player” to come out of Brazilian football in recent years and will be important to any future success that Brazil achieve.
Oscar, 20, enjoyed a stunning full debut for Chelsea this week – scoring twice against Italian giants Juventus in the Champions League – winning plaudits from around the world.
Vickery believes that Oscar’s ability to play a variety of midfield roles makes him a crucial figure for Brazil, although accepts that initially his impact in England may be greater in continental competitions.
“Oscar is a wonderful player, perhaps the most important player to come out of Brazilian football in recent years,” he told Redação SporTV. “Perhaps above Neymar, who is also fantastic. However, Oscar is a midfielder in the full sense of the word.
“Chelsea have a lot of money and have signed many in Oscar’s position. He has no guarantee of a start, but I think he has an understanding manager.
“Oscar started against Juventus because the game was a bit slower. In the Champions League he should have more chances than in the Premier League.”
