Grêmio 2-1 Atlético Goianiense
Grêmio have climbed up to second in the Campeonato Brasileiro after beating basement boys Atlético Goianiense 2-1 in Porto Alegre.
The Tricolor Gaucho found themselves 2-0 up after eighteen minutes thanks to a brace from former Manchester City midfielder Elano.
Marino managed to pull one back for Atlético in the 24th minute but it proved no more than a consolation goal as Grêmio held on to their lead at the Olimpico.
Bahia 0–0 Atlético Mineiro
Atlético Mineiro still remain top of the Campeonato Brasileiro despite being held to a goalless draw at Bahia.
The Galo, though, could lose their place at the summit tonight if Fluminense defeat Santos in Rio de Janeiro.
Portuguesa 3-0 Coritiba
Portuguesa have climbed up to eleventh in the Brasileirão after cruising to a 3-0 home win against Coritiba.
The visitors were forced to play 85 minutes of the game with 10 men after Sergio Escudero received a red card for hacking down Ananias, who was played through on goal.
Portuguesa then went on to capitalise on their one man advantage, with Bruno Mineiro finding the net twice, before Ananias put the game to the bed nine minutes into the second half.
Flamengo 0-1 Ponte Preta
Flamengo failed to bounce back from their 4-1 defeat at Internacional on Sunday after losing to Ponte Preta in Rio de Janeiro.
The only goal of the game came in the 20th minute when Luan picked out Uendel, who finished by sending Flamengo goalkeeper Felipe the wrong way.
The result means Ponte Preta now find themselves ninth in the table, while Flamengo lie in thirteenth, four places above the relegation zone.
Náutico 1-1 Vasco
Fourth-placed Vasco were held to a 1-1 draw by eleven-placed Náutico in Recife.
The home side took the lead through Kieza’s close-range finish in the 41st minute, before Fellipe Bastos unleashed a thunderbolt strike from outside the box to level the score seven minutes into the second half.
São Paulo 1–1 Internacional
Fifth-place São Paulo and sixth-placed Internacional played out a 1-1 draw at the Morumbi.
Dagoberto, who once played for São Paulo, fired Inter into the lead in the 7th minute, before Maicon equalised eleven minutes later.
The visitors were forced to play out the final 18 minutes of the game with 10 men after former Portsmouth loanee Andres D’Alessandro received a second yellow card for diving.
Cruzeiro 1-3 Botafogo
Botafogo came from behind to beat Cruzeiro 3-1 in Minas Gerais.
Tinga fired the hosts into the lead in the 18th minute, but Clarence Seedorf two goals in quick succession just before half time.
The former Netherlands international turned provider in the second half, setting up Jadson, who scored from close range to ensure Botafogo the victory.
Figueirense 1-0 Corinthians
Figueirense have climbed off the bottom of the table after beating Copa Libertadores winners Corinthians 1-0 in Santa Catarina.
The only goal of the game was scored by Caio, who tapped in Helder’s teasing cross inside the six-yard box.
The result means Figueirense now occupy eighteenth position in the Brasileirão table, while Corinthians drop down to twelfth.
