After playing out a 1-1 draw in the first leg at La Bombonera last week, a second-half brace from Emerson Sheik helped the Timão finally win South America’s most prestigious competition.

Neither side came close to a goal in an evenly-contested first half short on clear-cut chances, but Corinthians took only eight minutes to make the breakthrough after half-time as Danilo flicked the ball through to Emerson, who made no mistake finding the back of the net from close range.

Following the goal, Boca committed more players forward which meant they left themselves open at the back. In the 72nd minute they were caught out as Emerson took advantage of Schiavi’s dreadful mistake, collecting his loose pass on the halfway line before going one-on-one with the helpless Sebastián Sosa and then calmly slotting the ball into the far corner of the net to confirm victory for Corinthians.
