Romario has been a vocal critic of the CBF and Brazilian national team in recent times and although retired, his voice still carries weight with the Brazilian public.

“If I could choose, I would put faith in Joel Santana. I don"t find him to be an out-of-date manager.

“Logic would have been to give the Olympic Games to [Under-20 manager] Ney Franco, because he already knows all the kids.

“If after the Copa America, Mano Menezes also loses at the Olympic Games, he will be removed from his job."

Joel Santana is currently manager of Flamengo and has overseen the team"s exit from the Copa Libertadores at the Group Stage, with some Rubro-Negro fans already calling for his exit.
