In the game of the round, Flamengo struck back from going a goal down early in the second half to run out comfortable 3-1 winners against Resende in Volta Redonda. The Rubro Negro’s goals came courtesy of Ronaldinho, Vagner Love and Negueba.
Playing at the same time, Botafogo cruised to a 3-0 victory against Macaé at the Estadio Claudio Moacir. Argentine German Herrera opened the scoring in the 27th minute, before Felipe Menezes doubled the Fogão’s lead eight minutes later. Macaé posed little threat against Oswaldo’s side in the second half and three minutes from the time Elkeson sealed the win with a header.
In the evening kick-off, Fluminense ran out 3-0 winners against Bangu at São Januario. Captain Fred opened the scoring converting from the spot on the half hour mark, before his strike partner Araujo doubled the Tricolors lead moments later. Any chance of Bangu making a comeback in the second half were dashed when the talented Wellington Nem found the back of the net inside the 65th minute.
Playing at the same time, the already qualified Vasco managed to do their rivals Fluminense a favour, by beating Boavista 1-0, which enabled the Tricolor finish second in Group B – qualifying for the Taça Guanbara semi-finals. However, the Cruz de Malta’s incentive for victory was to maintain their 100% record in the Campeonato Carioca. Substitute Kim replaced Alecsandro early in the first-half and scored in the 35th minute.
