The Villarreal striker had been keen on the return to Brazil, with his club willing to sanction the deal, but there has been a collapse in negotiations over third-party financing for the deal.
Speaking to Lancenet!, coach Emerson Leão has confirmed that the club are still actively looking to recruit an additional striker to their squad:
“This is a desire of Sao Paulo. Regardless of what my desires are, this is the club’s plan. I’ve tried others, with no luck, so we’ll wait.”
