Replacing Renato Abreu in the starting line-up, Thomás has drawn plaudits from all directions and even a comparison with Neymar from boss Vanderlei Luxemburgo.
“I see Thomas is just 18 years old, with great potential to develop his football,” said the former-Real Madrid boss. “He is fast and changes position quickly.”
“I see him playing in the same space as Neymar, clearly still a level below that, but with the same motion, constantly changing sides.”
Whilst recognising the qualities of Thomás, Luxemburgo made a point of taking the pressure off the youngster.
“He cannot be responsible for Flamengo qualifying for the Libertadores.
“He is a boy, he is very good, but the responsibility of being champions and qualifying for the Libertadores, that is on Ronaldinho.
“He just has to play a supporting role.”
