Flamengo had looked to be easing to victory, with goals from Deivid and Thiago Neves. However, the defining moment came just seconds before the interval when André Lima bagged a goal to pull Grêmio right back into the game.

Soon after half-time, Grêmio were level – that man André Lima once more proving the bain of the Rio side and equalising.

Flamengo were reeling, with the club’s title ambitions rapidly losing momentum.

Then, on the stroke of Corinthians going ahead in São Paulo, Flamengo were behind as Douglas put the Gaúcho side ahead, before Mirallas compounded the Rubro-Negro’s misery – making it 4-2 on the night.

Flamengo now lie six points off top with six to play, but are in danger of falling out of the Libertadores places.
