Draws with Argentina (1-1) and Cuba (0-0) had left the Under-20 side in a precarious position, but last night’s result was a new low for Ney Franco’s side.

Romário, who is in Mexico to commentate for a Brazilian TV Network was particularly stinging in his criticism of the side.

“This is a great shame,” said the 1994 World Cup winner. “This is a stain on the shirt of the Seleção.”

Brazil could manage just an Henrique consolation goal as they slumped to defeat, made more embarrassing when considering that many of the Brazilian side have been regulars for their clubs this campaign.

Ney Franco presided over Under-20 World Cup success only earlier this year, but now has been involved in a new low-point for the National Team’s youth sides.
