Cafu, captain of the winning Seleção side in 2002 is amongst those holding this belief, and has been speaking at a corporate event in Santiago, Chile on the subject.
“It may hurt [Brazil] a lot," said the former AC Milan and Roma full-back.
“It may be a reason that Brazil will have a poor World Cup. With a lack of games against the big teams, Brazil will have to use a series of friendlies to replace the matches with South American teams."
Cafu also commented on the issues surrounding the ability of Brazil to organize the World Cup and the delays to some stadiums.
“It is true that the works have delayed a bit, but everything has already been compensated for.
“Brazil will have great World Cup stadiums and will deliver them on time, by the end of 2013, or at the latest in early 2014," he said.
